Associate of Arts Degree Pathway

The Associate of Arts (A.A.) Degree Pathway enables students to take college level courses and graduate from Burnsville High School with both their High School diploma and a 2-year A.A. college degree from Inver Hills Community College.

Program Description and Requirements

An Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree consists of 60 total college/university credits

52 general college/ university education credits, known as the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC)
- Includes required health/fitness course
8 college/university elective credits

Must maintain a 2.00 GPA within Minnesota Transfer Curriculum

Students will take college and university courses at Burnsville High School during their junior and senior years from:

The University of Minnesota
Inver Hills Community College- Associate of Arts Degree Awarding Institution
Metropolitan State- Education Electives
Normandale Community College- Nursing Elective
Dakota County Technical College- Child Development Elective

The Associate of Arts pathway will not be available through the Virtual Academy.

The Associate of Arts Degree will be awarded from Inver Hills Community College

Transferring Credits After Graduating

It is advisable to connect with a transfer specialist or admissions counselor at the college or university to which you plan to attend post Burnsville High School graduation. If you plan to study outside of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities after graduation please plan to connect with an admissions counselor from that college or university to discuss what credits will transfer.

Coursework completed for an Associates of Arts degree can be transfer and applied towards a four year bachelor's degree. Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) is accepted by Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, The University of Minnesota system, and many private colleges and universities.

If transferring to a Minnesota State University after completing your Associate of Arts Degree, you will be guaranteed junior-year status upon admission.
