Student Panel

Bashir Ali is a 10th grader and is involved in Black Student Union, student council, speech and Youth Services Advisory Council. A piece of advice that he gives to incoming students is that, "Authenticity in your identity serves you well even in large groups. As social gatherings tend to take us out of our comfort zones, it's always a good idea to remember your values and principles."
What makes Burnsville High School special to Bashir? He is given the opportunity for growth that's facilitated through diverse staff and students. BHS takes priority in making sure all voices are heard and acknowledged.

Iman Aliye is a junior and is enrolled in the Associate of Arts (AA) program. She participates in cross country and track & field, and involved in AVID, Black Girl Magic, Burnsville Strong, and Link Crew. Through these groups, Iman had developed leadership skills and learned the importance of community and service.
Her advice for incoming 9th graders is, "Take your time adjusting and don't put too much pressure on yourself. Ask questions, stay organized, and get involved in activities that interest you!"

Joel Saidu is a 10th grader and is involved in a variety of activities, including band.
His advice is to get involved. "There are so many after school activities and athletics to participate in. You can find a place where you belong!"

Sumaya Moalin is a senior and is involved in speech & debate. She's also the creative director of Muslim Student Association and a board member of the Student Advocacy Society.
One advice she would like to give incoming 8th graders is, "Put yourself out there. Don't be afraid to try new things, enroll in different courses and meet new people. Life is all about experiences and opportunities. Don't let your high school life pass you by because you were too afraid to do anything. You really only get one chance at it."
How did Burnsville High School impact Sumaya? Sumaya actually started the school year late, enrolling in the second semester of junior year. But even in that short time, she met amazing friends and mentors who helped her along the way. It really made a difference in her high school experience.
