BHS Senior Ros Falcon Cerda receives apprenticeship from Access Point!

What is Access Point?

Access Point is an innovative approach to a career in technology where students can “go from here to a career in about a year.” It is designed for seniors who are interested in a professional technology career right after high school. Students are identified in spring semester of junior year or fall semester of senior year through an application, interview, and technical assessment process. Students then enroll in customized local postsecondary classes during spring semester of senior year, with focused instruction and one-on-one mentoring, to help them gain a better understanding of programming languages and business best practices. Classes and coaching continue into the summer, training the students in more detailed areas of programming to prepare them for a paid apprenticeship in the fall. Mentorship and ‘hypercare’ support are provided throughout the student’s enrollment in the Access Point program.

After completing all necessary requirements and the 4-8 month paid apprenticeship, students are hired on for a full-time technology position at local prominent companies. This includes a competitive salary, benefits, and tuition reimbursement toward the student’s college degree.
