Youth Service and Volunteering 

Service to our community is an amazing way to give back, and it’s also a unique opportunity for earning a service learning credit.  Please go to the Youth Service- Community Volunteering Website for more information   *Be sure to visit my.innerview.org for all updated opportunities.


1. The NEW Police Explorer Program is now available.  With a partnership with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office this will give young people an opportunity to explore a career in law enforcement or a related field in the criminal justice system. It’s for ages 14 – 18. Applications are being accepted through September 30.  The link to learn more about the program is https://www.scottcountymn.gov/2134/Explorer-Program.


2. Green Apple Day of Service The Green Apple Day of Service, which will take place on Thursday, Oct.6th, is a national event that gives teachers and students the opportunity to transform all schools into healthy, safe and productive learning environments through local service projects. Join Burnsville High School students and staff members for a day of outdoor fun while giving back to the community.  Bring your work gloves, outdoor tools, dress for the weather and dig right in!

Event-Thursday, Oct. 6th from 2:45pm to 4:45p. *Don't have a ride?  Take the convenient after school bus at 4:30p


3. BrainPower in a Backpack: Meet after school on Thursdays 9/29,  10/6, 10/13, & 10/27 in the cafeteria from 2:45p-4p. BrainPower in a BackPack Thursday weekend food pack for students in need. Join us packing weekend food packages for preschool, elementary, middle and high school students. The activity bus is available starting at 4:30 PM


4. Food Pantry: Meet after school on Tuesdays 10/4, 10/11, 10/18, & 10/25 at the Diamondhead Education Center from 2:45p-4p. 191 Community Pantry Fresh Produce Distribution is Tuesday at Diamondhead Education Center – Door 9 Entrance -- Pleasant Avenue.  You must have transportation arranged to pick you up after the pack is complete. 

For BHS & BAHS Students -- you can start right after school at Diamondhead Education Center outside Door 9, Pleasant Avenue Entrance For BHS PSEO Students or those with a more flexible schedule -- the packing for the Pantry's Fresh Produce Distribution starts at 1:00 PM outside Door 9, Pleasant Avenue Entrance


5. The Free Book Buggie. Sat Sept. 17th, Sept. 24th will be the Free Book Buggie book sort event from 10a-12p.  This event asks volunteers to count book donations, sort donated books by reading level and category, and load books into buggy for upcoming events.


6.City of Savage Halloween Bash Volunteers are needed Saturday Oct. 22 4:30p-8:30p to help run fun family activity stations for children that come to the event with their families.


7. City of Savage Secret Holiday Shop The Annual Secret Holiday Shop is an opportunity for kids of all ages to do holiday shopping for their family and friends without their parents. Volunteers will assist children in selecting from a variety of gifts for purchase, ranging in price from $0.50 to $12.Event date is Saturday Dec. 4th from 8:30a-11a


8. Youth Frontiers Retreat with Vista View 10-12 volunteers are needed for the Youth Frontiers Retreat for students at Vista View.  (Former Vista View students are highly encouraged to apply).  Requirements:  Must be in 10-12 grade, have transportation to and from Vista View, and a passion for youth.  The retreat is from 9:15a-3p on Oct. 12th.  For more information please contact Angiel Pohl (Principal of Vista View) at apohl@isd191.org


9. Bowls for BrainPower Join us in the art wing for Bowls for Brainpower.  Learn how to glaze pottery, make pottery, and more. 2:45-4p in the Art Wing. October 4th


10. PALS and BYC Mentoring Programs starting:  Please complete the appropriate application form to mentor with our PALS program (pre K-5th) and BYC program (6-8).  You will be responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in homework support as well as activities, games, and fun.  For more information contact Allison Jordan ajordan@isd191.org
