THE WEEK AHEAD - Important Events for March 20 - 24
Greetings Burnsville High School Parents and Students,
We wanted you to have information about our approach and timeline for our search for the next Burnsville High School principal.
Last summer, we embarked on a search that did not result in a final candidate for Dr. Battle to present to our Board of Education. We are grateful to Dr. Sommers, currently interim Burnsville High School principal, who has been leading the school since August.
In response to the timeline set forth by Superintendent Battle, our next step is to embark on an inclusive, open, and comprehensive search. We see you, our students, as valued partners. Please see the resources below and know that you are appreciated. Our posting closes towards the end of March and we intend to complete the interview process by mid April. This process includes students, families, teachers, support staff, and administrators.

ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES
Attendance is a key factor in student success! Parents are strongly encouraged to schedule appointments outside of the school day. If your student must miss school, please follow the following procedures in accordance with our attendance policy to ensure the absence is excused:
All Day Absence – Parent/Guardian must call the attendance line (952-707-2104) as soon as possible in the morning to report the absence. If this is not possible, parents may send a signed note to school when the student returns.
Arriving Late to School – Parent/Guardian must call the attendance line (952-707- 2104) as soon as possible in the morning AND the student must complete the sign-in form in the Main Office when they arrive to school. If a call is not possible, the student can bring a signed note to the office when they arrive to school AND complete the sign in form. If the student does not sign in upon arrival to school, they will not be excused.
Leaving Early from School (for an appointment, etc.) - Parent/Guardian must call the attendance line (952-707-2104) before 10:00 am AND the student must pick up their departure pass before leaving school. With the pass in hand, they are able to walk out of the building at the appropriate time eliminating the need for parents to come into the building. If the student is returning to school after the appointment, they should bring their departure pass back into the Office and get signed back into school.
PLEASE NOTE: If students are leaving school due to illness, they need to check out through the health office in order to be excused. A parent/guardian needs to be contacted by a nurse, and a pass will be issued for students when leaving school. We cannot go back and excuse students who do not check out before leaving. If they do not check out, they will not be excused.
Senior Class - Yard Signs > Senior Class Party & Donations > Fundraiser!
It is almost Spring and soon our Seniors will be walking the stage at graduation! It is time to celebrate all their accomplishments, so why not brag on them by placing a yard sign or two in your neighborhood?
Yard Signs are $20 and can be ordered online or in the school office. Orders must be received by March 31st, so don’t delay – order right away!
Senior Class Party – The Senior Class Party offers a chemical free safe environment for our seniors to gather and celebrate their graduation. Immediately following the grad ceremony, students will board beautiful limousines (aka yellow school buses) and be whisked away to WhirlyBall in Bloomington for an evening packed full of food, games and surprises! Tickets are $80 and must be purchased by May 26. See the website for full details or stop into the school office for a paper registration form. Scholarships may be available, please complete the paper form and turn it into the office staff for consideration.
Donations – Historically, our community has been very generous and supportive of the Senior Class Party through monetary and in-kind donations. Monetary donations help with party execution and student scholarships, please visit the website to make your monetary donation. If you would like to donate a prize for the evening, please email BHSSeniorClassParty@gmail.com with the details of your donation!

CHANGE TO CHILL
The Change to Chill podcast is finally here! A library of 10-15 minute episodes have been created by Allina Health mental health professionals, which began as a partnership with Anoka-Hennepin Schools. These episodes cover a variety of topics for school staff and parents/caregivers, including self-care basics, having difficult conversations, and being trauma-informed.
Look for episodes here beginning next week! You can also listen on Spotify, Amazon Music, or Google Podcasts. I’ll also be sending out a survey to gather your feedback on the existing episodes and suggestions for future episodes in the coming weeks. Happy listening!
And....
Are you getting enough sleep? It's recommended that teenagers get 9-12 hours of sleep each night. Getting adequate sleep reduces stress, restores our immune system, boosts our mood, and improves memory. Sleeping well is even associated with better grades and increased energy throughout the day. If you are a student, sleep is an especially important part of your education! Check out Change to Chill’s tips for better sleep.
