A story of friendship and resilience: ‘Steel Magnolias’ opens Feb. 12
Burnsville High School Theatre Guild presents “Steel Magnolias” with seven performances in February.
Directed by Erika Sasseville and Madeline Stuart, the poignant drama centers on the bond a group of women share in a small Louisiana town. The story unfolds at Truvy’s salon – the go-to place for a beauty fix with a side of gossip. Through witty banter, Truvy, Annelle, M’Lynn, Shelby, Clairee and the inimitable Ouiser form friendships as strong as steel. But when tragedy strikes, the friends must lean on each other for strength.
“‘Steel Magnolias’ is exactly the kind of play I love to give to high school actors,” said Sasseville. “It’s a slice-of-life play that gives young actors a chance to explore themes and emotions that they may not have experienced in their own lives yet, as well as the timeless themes of friendship, family, and love through grief. Our six actors have been working tirelessly since December and they are going to blow audiences away!”
There will be a free preview for senior citizens on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
Performances run Feb. 12-14 and Feb. 20-21 at 7 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee on Feb. 21.
All performances are at the Mraz Center for the Performing Arts at Burnsville High School, 600 E. Hwy 13.
