BHS culinary teacher receives state honor

Burnsville High School teacher Matt Deutsch has been named the Minnesota ProStart Teacher of Excellence.

The culinary program at BHS has grown significantly over the past few years, with Deutsch an integral part of that growth. He is also an adviser for the school’s giving garden, which has provided hundreds of pounds of foods to local food shelves and the school’s cafeteria.

ProStart is the curriculum used in the culinary classes at BHS, which teaches not only culinary skills, but also the business aspects of the foodservice industry. The culinary pathway at BHS is a great example of using real-world learning to ensure students are future ready.

Deustch will be honored at a reception and professional development opportunity in May in Washington, D.C.
