BHS teacher named an American Geographic Society 2023 Geography Teacher Fellow

Burnsville High School (BHS) teacher Mollie Bousu has been named an American Geographical Society 2023 Geography Teacher Fellow. She is one of only 42 teachers selected nationally to participate in this opportunity, which will include support for teaching opportunities throughout the year.

As one of the newest cohort members, Bousu is invited to attend the annual Geography 2050 Symposium at Columbia University in New York in November. Fellows are Advanced Placement Human Geography (APHG) teachers from across the country who have the opportunity to convene with thought leaders from academia, government, industry and the social sector who gather to discuss the major forces that will shape our planet’s future.

APHG Chief Executive Officer John Konarski said, "Ms. Bousu joins an exclusive group of the finest geography teachers in the United States [with this fellowship]."

“Mollie is a cornerstone of our ninth-grade teaching team and has been instrumental in the success of our AP Human Geography program,” said Kristina Aars, BHS social studies teacher. “Mollie is also a key player in AVID training and teaching. She continually trains and learns to update her GIS knowledge.” 

“Burnsville High School staff continue to find ways to further develop and enhance their content knowledge,” said Principal Jesús Sandoval. “We are pleased that Mollie Bousu is one of the 42 teachers named as a fellow. She will be able to use the content she obtains through the symposium to not only enhance the classroom experience for students but share her knowledge with colleagues as well.”
