Burnsville High School, students earn national awards for volunteerism
Burnsville High School students have been recognized with 99 National Community Service Awards for the impact they have made with their community service and for inspiring other students to get involved in their community.
Burnsville High School was also recognized with a School Impact Award, which goes to schools whose students provided over 2,000 hours of service. BHS earned the Emerald Award for students having invested nearly 12,000 hours toward community needs.
“It is such an honor to work with the over 310 BHS students that have committed to the betterment of our community by providing well over 11,000 hours of volunteer service within our community,” Youth Service Coordinator Courtnee Jackson Floback said. “As this is my 5th year in this role, I have not only seen our program grow, I have also seen our students' compassion and dedication to our Burnsville community grow as well. Whether helping with animals in need of care, youth with their academics or food scarcity, seniors that need someone to connect with, or preserving our parks and natural landscape, our students do it all! All I can say is thank you thank you to all of the BHS students that have submitted their hours and time aiding our community. Thank you to the parents that have helped to instill the empathy and compassion that our students have, and thank you to our district for giving me the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing program.”
Students that earned the National InnerView Service Awards earned the Merit, Honor or Ambassador award based on the number of hours and number of service projects they have completed. To earn the Merit Award, students must have contributed at least 20 hours of service in at least 4 different service activities, the Honor Award went to students that contributed at least 40 hours of service in at least 8 different activities, and the Ambassador Award winners contributed at least 100 hours of service in at least 12 different activities. Additionally, the Zero Hunger Award is awarded to students focused on efforts regarding helping people struggling with hunger.
The Presidential Service Award is awarded to students based on the number of hours they contribute, awarding them with the designation of Bronze, Silver, or Gold for hours they completed between May of 2023 and April of 2024. Bronze Medallion Award Winners completed 100-174 hours of service, Silver Medallion Award Winners completed 175-249 hours of service, and Gold Medallion Award Winners completed 250-plus hours of service.
