Cody Hoang awarded prestigious National Honor Society scholarship

The National Honor Society (NHS) announced that Cody Hoang has been selected as an NHS scholarship semifinalist. As a national semifinalist, he will receive a scholarship award of $3,200.

This year, nearly 17,000 seniors from more than 9,000 NHS chapters across the country submitted a complete scholarship application. Six-hundred of those seniors, only 3.6% of all submitted applications, received a scholarship.

Recipients are chosen based on their demonstrated work to support the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, service, leadership and character.

"Cody Hoang is one of the most organized students with whom I've worked,” said Kristina Aars, social studies teacher. “As our NHS secretary, he kept scrupulous records and communicated with members as needed. This is a well-deserved recognition of a student who has been such a responsible leader and role model for our NHS chapter."

Next fall, Cody is headed to Vassar College in New York where he plans to major in sociology. At Burnsville High School (BHS), Cody serves as president of both the Asian Student Association, one of the many affinity groups at BHS, and Youth in Government. He is a member of Burnsville Strong and National Honor Society, and he also serves as the student representative to the District 191 School Board of Education.
