Emma DeBilzan receives Silent Impact Award for leadership, commitment to others

Burnsville High School senior Emma DeBilzan was nominated to receive the Minnesota Association of Student Leaders (MASL) Silent Impact Award.

The Silent Impact Award recognizes individuals who support student leadership with dedication, humility, and a genuine commitment to others. These are the people who step forward to help without being asked and who strengthen their communities through quiet action.

Nominated by BHS teachers Ronna Johnson and Eric Reuss and fellow peer Miley LaMotte, Emma consistently demonstrates a willingness to listen to student ideas first and create space for others to share their voices. During planning for major school events like homecoming, she intentionally encouraged new members to contribute perspectives that helped strengthen school spirit and promote inclusion across the student body.

The MASL provided the following information about Emma:

"She is the kind of leader who asks "What can I do to help?" and then follows through. Whether designing banners, preparing materials for dances, organizing supplies, supporting council members during lunch periods, or managing communication through posters and social media, Emma quietly ensures that events succeed long before they begin.

Emma’s impact extends well beyond one organization. As a member of BHS Student Council and Link Crew and a captain of the varsity softball team, she consistently demonstrates reliability, initiative and a strong commitment to serving others. She is often the first to arrive at events, preparing spaces and supporting teammates without recognition or expectation of praise.

What makes Emma especially deserving of this recognition is the way she supports others. She helps fellow student leaders feel prepared and confident; she strengthens communication across her school community; she embraces new ideas; and she contributes to initiatives that reflect the needs of a diverse and evolving student population.

Emma’s leadership may happen quietly, but its impact is lasting.

Through her dedication, creativity, and selfless service, she has helped shape a more connected and inclusive environment at BHS and beyond."

The MASL is a student leadership organization that is affiliated with the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) as the Division of Student Activities. It is highly involved in student councils and honor society in Minnesota.
