Students showcase work at Section 5AA art show

Mallory McAllister was one of 14 students to receive the Spotlight Artist Award

Eighteen Burnsville High School students participated in the Minnesota State High School League Section 5AA art show May 4 at the Perpich Center for Arts Education in Golden Valley.

Senior Mallory McAllister was one of 14 students to receive the Spotlight Artist Award and returned to the Perpich Center Saturday, May 11 to display her work at the MSHSL’s Visual Arts State Festival. McAllister and Katie Duong also received Superior Awards.

"Getting the chance to take part in an art show and have my ceramic artwork recognized was an amazing and rewarding experience! It was an awesome opportunity for me to share my skills and craftsmanship and discover whether or not my work will resonate with others,” Duong said. “It felt nice to receive an Excellence certificate and a participation award as this showed how much the community values my work and artistic expression. It also gave me an opportunity to interact with other artists, get their opinions, and be inspired by their creations, which can inspire new ideas for projects in the future."

Also earning Excellent ratings were McAllister, Kaylee Greves (2), Kris Domek, Luca Ward, Brianna Moruri, Ava Roberts, Emely Meza-Ayala, Ian Robinson, Nala Stevenson and Diana Amaya.

“Our students have worked really hard this year and we were excited to showcase them,” BHS visual arts teacher Sara O’Neal said.
