Two seniors selected as Triple ‘A’ Award recipients at Burnsville High School

Brooke Gerber and John White have been selected as this year’s Triple “A” Award recipients at Burnsville High School (BHS).

To qualify as a Triple "A" Award recipient, a student must have a “B” or better grade point average (GPA) and participate in fine arts activities and athletics sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL).

“The MSHSL Triple ‘A’ Award is one of the most prestigious awards a student in the state of Minnesota can achieve,” said Kevin Kleiner, BHS athletics director. “Brooke and John are shining lights at Burnsville High School and very deserving of being our award nominees. They are amazing, well-rounded students with many talents, interests and accomplishments. They serve as wonderful role models for younger students to follow.”

Brooke is an active member of the student council executive board, National Honor Society, Burnsville Strong, Youth Service Advisory Council and DECA. During her high school journey, she has participated in theatre, tennis and softball.

“Brooke has gone above and beyond as both a student and athlete,” said BHS physical education teacher and softball coach Eric Reuss. “ As a captain of the BHS softball team, she is a respected leader whose teammates naturally gravitate toward her for her guidance and positive example. She consistently demonstrates exceptional leadership, integrity and goal-oriented focus in all that she does.”

Throughout his high school career, John has maintained high grades while taking a full course load of many honors classes. He has been involved in cross country, soccer, hockey, and track and field, as well as the high school band, National Honor Society and DECA.

As a junior, John was the recipient of a Junior Book Award, which is given to 11th-grade students in recognition of their outstanding academic accomplishments, dedication to learning, leadership, school involvement and community service.

“John's drive and ambitious attitude make him an outstanding person and student,” said BHS math teacher Teresa Meuser. “He’s a well-rounded, intelligent and compassionate young man and respected by his teachers and peers. Any college or university will be a better place with such a fine young person.”

Both seniors will be going to college next year. Brooke plans to attend University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire and major in political science. John is currently undecided on where he plans to attend, but will major in engineering and participate in cross country and track and field.
